Does getting runway-ready hair require a trip to the salon? Absolutely not. Nature provides some of the best hair care ingredients you can find and you probably have many of them in your cupboard already. Follow these home remedies if you want to know how to get healthy hair.

The right recipe depends on your unique hair type. Try each of the recipes below and add custom twists. How can you get healthy hair? Here are eight home remedies.

1. Apple Cider Vinegar, Aspirin and Tea Tree Oil

Does dandruff leave your shoulders looking like you just came in from the snow — in August? If so, this home remedy for healthy hair might be your saving grace. Apple cider vinegar has various antimicrobial and antifungal properties that help heal scalp issues leading to dandruff. It also removes product buildup that can create flakes. The aspirin helps cool any redness or inflammation.

Tea tree oil is another natural antimicrobial agent. Unlike other oils, it won’t leave a greasy residue on your locks, making it ideal if your head can become slick by the afternoon. To make this recipe, add three crushed aspirin to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and three drops of tea tree oil. Massage into your scalp, then rinse.

2. Cinnamon and Coconut Oil

This recipe might be the sweetest and spiciest on this list. Cinnamon is a natural antifungal agent, effective against Malassezia, a type of fungus that causes the condition. It encourages circulation, possibly helping to reduce hair loss.

Coconut oil is an ideal natural conditioner for hair. It’s rich in saturated fats that penetrate each strand, locking in moisture. That’s because it consists primarily of lauric acid, which soaks into hair more efficiently than mineral or sunflower oil.

Assemble this recipe by adding two to three drops of cinnamon essential oil to a tablespoon of coconut oil. Massage into your scalp for up to 30 minutes, then rinse.

3. Banana and Olive Oil

Olive oil is another natural powerhouse that probably lives on your countertop. However, this substance is best left for those with thick, curly hair. Using it on fine strands can weigh them down, making them appear lifeless and greasy.

Bananas are chock-full of potassium and other nutrients that nourish your hair, improving its elasticity and preventing breakage. Using the mashed fruit alone is fabulous for adding volume to lifeless locks. Mixing it with two tablespoons of olive oil can banish frizz. Leave it in for five to ten minutes and rinse.

4. Avocado, Olive Oil, Honey

Avocado is another nutritional powerhouse that’s fabulous for nourishing your hair back to health. It’s rich in vitamin E, critical for increasing each strand’s elasticity and resistance to breakage. It also is packed with healthy fats, letting you omit the olive oil if you find that ingredient makes your hair too greasy. Leave it in if you have thicker tresses.

Honey is an outstanding antimicrobial agent. If you have dandruff, it can banish the flakes. It also coats each strand, preventing split ends. Mix one to two tablespoons of each substance and apply to your hair, leaving it on for up to 30 minutes before rinsing.

5. Apple Cider Vinegar and Rosemary

Have you noticed your hair thinning of late? You could reach for a pricey over-the-counter product containing minoxidil. However, one 2015 study showed that rosemary essential oil could do a comparable job renewing hair growth. Plus, it came free from the pesky side effects some people experience with pharmaceutical treatments, like unwanted weight gain.

The magic lies in the circulating stimulating properties of this plant. Another clinical review shows it may even spur regrowth in those with alopecia.

To make this recipe, add three to four drops of rosemary essential oil with two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Massage into your scalp and leave on for up to ten minutes before rinsing.

6. Black Tea

Are you looking for a way to add instant luster to your locks? Why not pour yourself a luxurious tea bath and use a pot of black stuff to wash your hair? You’ll reap instant benefits in radiant shine when you emerge.

You can take this remedy with you on the go if your strands tend to frizz over the course of the day. Brew three to four bags in a pot and let the liquid cool. Add it to a spray bottle and spritz away whenever you need to tame your tresses midday.

7. Honey, Aloe Vera and Lemon

Aloe vera has magical healing properties for minor cuts and burns. It’s also a fantastic conditioning agent for your hair. To use, pluck one of the leaves and fillet it, removing the gel. Then, add a tablespoon of honey and the juice of one lemon.

You might have heard of using lemon juice to lighten your hair. You might notice a few highlights if you let your locks dry in the sun after using this recipe. It’s also a natural antibacterial agent, helping to prevent dandruff.

8. Beer, Egg and Sunflower Oil

This home remedy for healthy hair will condition your tresses without leaving them greasy. Sunflower oil is a natural source of vitamin E to increase your hair’s resistance to breakage. Egg contains various nutrients that help nurture each strand.

The sucrose and maltose sugars in beer help rinse the other two ingredients away for a healthy shine. Let a brewski go flat, then add one beaten egg and a tablespoon of sunflower oil. Massage into your hair and rinse.
