The Importance of Self-Motivation (Updated for 2026)

Key Takeaways Self-motivation is the essential internal drive that enables you to pursue your goals. Motivation a soft skill that you can improve with practice. Common barriers to motivation include fear of failure or a lack of purpose, but these can be overcome. Have you ever started a task but stopped halfway through because you no longer felt like doing it, even if you needed to complete it? From completing work tasks to succeeding in your hobbies or personal fitness goals, we rely on motivation for almost everything. Yet it can be elusive, especially when it has to come from within. Here’s why self-motivation is essential for success, plus five ways to build your motivation muscle.  What Is Self-Motivation? Self-motivation is an internal drive that helps us take action toward a goal and follow through with it, even when we don’t want to. Encouraging yourself to make progress gives you the boost you need to reach your goals. If you lack motivation, completing your tasks can be difficult. While self-motivation refers to who is doing the motivating, psychologists distinguish between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation to explain why we are motivated in the first place. Intrinsic motivation is your desire to do something for its own sake, because you enjoy it or want to do it. It is not dependent on rewards. Extrinsic motivation is when you do something for rewards, such as praise, or to avoid negative consequences, such as punishment.  Where Does Personal Motivation Come From? Psychologists have developed many theories about the origins of motivation. These include:  Instinct: This suggests that motivation is intrinsic to humans, just as birds know how to migrate. Drive: Motivation may be associated with the drive to fulfill unmet needs. Arousal: This one is about maintaining an optimal level of alertness, so you might seek either thrilling or relaxing activities, depending on how you feel at the time. Incentive: According to this theory, motivation is either a desire to seek rewards or to avoid negative consequences. There are also many others. However, as yet, no single theory appears to account for all elements of complex human self-motivation.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woa2Qa8i80U Why Do We Need Self-Motivation? Self-motivation is needed for both intrinsic and extrinsic tasks. For example, you might get up early on the weekend to practice a hobby you enjoy. However, you might also force yourself to study for a professional exam to gain a salary raise, even though you do not enjoy it.   Your community and close family and friends can only do so much to encourage you to work and achieve your goals. While they can say optimistic and supportive things, they can’t physically force you to start and keep working. Only you can.  What Are the Benefits of Self-Motivation? Successful people rely on self-motivation to overcome obstacles and setbacks and achieve their goals. Without it, they wouldn’t be where they are today. According to the experts at Positive Psychology, personal motivation brings many benefits, including:  Becoming more resilient, even when you encounter obstacles. Learning how to present your best self in any situation. Feeling more energized and confident while working. Learning how to manage your time better. Understanding feedback as a learning opportunity. Is Motivation a Skill? Many people consider motivation a soft skill, and it’s highly sought after in the workplace. Like any other skill, you can work to improve it.  “Motivation is knowledge. You learn how to be better motivated,” says motivation scientist Ayelet Fishbach. Why Do You Have Zero Motivation? If you don’t feel energized to move toward your goals, you are not alone. Penn LPS notes that there are several common barriers to self-motivation, including: Fear of failure: This is common, especially in people who tend toward perfectionism, because if you cannot guarantee success, it may be more appealing not to try in the first place. Disconnection from purpose: If you don’t think what you are aiming for is meaningful, especially at work, then you will be less motivated to achieve it. Stress, fatigue and distractions: If you are tired, drained or experiencing severe stress, your self-motivation is likely low. That’s natural — there’s only so much anyone can handle at one time.  The good news is that some of those barriers are only temporary, and even the more long-lasting ones can be removed or improved when you understand how to motivate yourself.  5 Ways to Build Self-Motivation While change can be scary, engaging in self-motivation can help you live the life you desire. Here are some actions you can take to build personal motivation: 1. Have a Positive Mindset While some tasks seem daunting, encouraging yourself and maintaining a positive attitude can help you feel better about starting. A positive mindset can also strengthen your drive and help you focus on completing tasks.  2. Break a Big Goal Into Mini Goals When you have a substantial goal to achieve or a complex task to complete, breaking it down into smaller steps can make it more manageable and enjoyable.  3. Plan for Obstacles There’s always something that stops you from building a habit or completing a task. You know yourself best, so plan ahead for this. For example, if you know that you won’t go running when it’s raining, make a deal with yourself to go out for just five minutes, and if you still hate it, you can turn around and go home. Chances are, once you have started, you’ll carry on.  4. Track Progress Keep a journal, chart or log and note down key dates and tiny wins, however small. Make it colorful and inspirational by blending it with a mood board of how you will feel when you succeed. This helps you reflect on your efforts and build your personal motivation muscle. 5. Reward Yourself Rewarding yourself after accomplishing a mini goal is an excellent way to stay motivated. The rewards can help reinforce your interest and enjoyment in your work. However, it’s important to note that rewards don’t work for everyone, so if it doesn’t feel right to you, skip this step. Frequently Asked Questions Here are answers to some common questions people have about self-motivation. What is intrinsic motivation? Intrinsic motivation is the desire to do something just because you want to, with no external reward.  What is the theory of motivation? There are many separate theories of motivation, including drive theory, arousal theory, incentive theory and instinct theory. So far, no single theory appears to fully explain this phenomenon.  Why is self-motivation important? Self-motivation is important because you cannot always rely on other people as cheerleaders. If you want to achieve your goals, you must build the ability to maintain strong personal motivation. Get Motivated Today Self-motivation is crucial for achieving goals and maintaining personal life satisfaction. Everyone has it to some degree, and you can learn to improve yours. You've probably seen "maxxing" all over your social media feeds. From sleepmaxxing to looksmaxxing, everyone's optimizing every aspect of their lives. While some maxxing trends veer into unhealthy territory, the core idea of intentional self-improvement is solid. The key is knowing which trends are worth your time. We've sorted through the noise to bring you eight maxxing trends that can add real value to your wellness routine. What Does 'Maxxing' Mean? At its core, maxxing means taking something to the extreme or optimizing it to the max. The term started as internet slang but has evolved into a mainstream concept covering everything from wellness habits to career development. It's all about intentionally improving specific areas of your life. The maxxing movement has become so popular that it's caught the attention of mental health experts. Some trends, like looksmaxxing, involve aggressively searching for ways to change appearance, which experts say can be detrimental to health when taken to extremes. The key difference between helpful and harmful maxxing is balance. When you approach self-improvement with intention rather than obsession, these trends can genuinely enhance your wellbeing. 8 Maxxing Trends Worth Following Not all maxxing trends are created equal. We've sifted through the noise to find ones that can add value to your life without pushing you into unhealthy territory. 1. Fibermaxxing Fibermaxxing is about intentionally optimizing your diet to boost fiber intake for better gut health. Your digestive system thrives on fiber, and getting enough of it helps boost gut health, improves digestion and can increase your energy levels. Start by adding more whole grains, fruits and vegetables to your meals. Swap white rice for brown rice or quinoa, snack on fresh berries instead of processed treats and load up your plate with leafy greens. You don't need to overhaul your diet overnight. Small, consistent changes add up to big improvements in how you feel. 2. Sleepmaxxing Sleepmaxxing prioritizes creating routines and an environment that help you achieve truly restorative sleep, emphasizing quality alongside duration. The foundation of sleepmaxxing is consistency. Keeping a regular sleep schedule helps your body fall asleep at the same time every day. Try to go to bed within 20 minutes of your sleep target time each night. Your body's internal clock will thank you and you'll likely fall asleep faster and wake up more refreshed. Other simple steps include keeping your bedroom cool, limiting screen time before bed and avoiding caffeine in the afternoon. 3. Readingmaxxing Readingmaxxing is the practice of making a conscious effort to read more. Whether you're diving into novels, nonfiction, or articles, regular reading can sharpen your mental clarity, reduce stress and expand your worldview in ways that scrolling social media never will. The best approach is to blend different reading formats into your daily routine. Keep a physical book on your nightstand for winding down before bed, listen to audiobooks while doing chores or commuting and use a digital e-reader on the go. This variety keeps reading accessible no matter where you are. Start with just 10 minutes a day and build from there. 4. Fitnessmaxxing Fitnessmaxxing is about finding a fitness routine you genuinely enjoy that serves your body's unique needs. This trend emphasizes consistency and personal goals over extreme workouts or chasing someone else's aesthetic ideal. One effective approach is workout stacking, where you mix different training styles to maximize your physical output. Combine strength training with cardio, add flexibility work like yoga or stretching and include activities you look forward to. The variety keeps things interesting and works different muscle groups. Just as important is recovery. Your muscles need time to repair and grow, so build in rest days and prioritize sleep. Pushing too hard without recovery can lead to burnout or injury. 5. Careermaxxing Careermaxxing focuses on the intentional development of skills and setting of professional boundaries to create a more fulfilling work life. The goal is to grow in your career without sacrificing your health or personal time. Consider learning high-demand tools or skills outside regular working hours. This might mean taking an online course, earning a certification, or practicing a new software program. Active networking is another key component. Build genuine relationships with colleagues and industry professionals who can offer guidance or opportunities. Remember that constant overwork can affect your health, so set clear boundaries and know when to step away from your desk. 6. Lifemaxxing Lifemaxxing is about getting your life together in a positive, sustainable way. This might include organizing your finances, decluttering your space, or learning a new skill that makes daily life easier. The result is reduced stress and increased confidence. Start by upgrading habits that serve you and quitting ones that don't. Maybe that means meal prepping on Sundays, creating a budget that works, or tackling that junk drawer. Eliminate energy drains wherever you can. Unsubscribe from emails you never read, automate bill payments, or create systems that simplify repetitive tasks. These small changes free up mental space for things that matter. 7. Socialmaxxing Socialmaxxing is the practice of intentionally cultivating meaningful relationships with friends and family. Socialmaxxing centers on genuine human connection and investing in the people who matter most to you. Upgrading your social skills can help you expand your network and boost your charisma. Practice active listening when you're with others. Put your phone away, make eye contact and really hear what people are saying. Remember names and take mental notes about important life events your connections share. Following up on these details later shows you care and strengthens your relationships. 8. Relaxmaxxing Relaxmaxxing is the crucial antidote to all the other maxxing trends. This is the art of intentionally scheduling downtime, practicing mindfulness, or simply doing nothing to recharge. Without relaxation, your optimization efforts can quickly turn into burnout. Build reset rituals into your day. This might be a five-minute breathing exercise in the morning, a walk around the block at lunch, or a tech-free hour before bed. Embrace low-stakes living by turning off notifications that stress you out, limiting screen time, or spending time in nature without any agenda. These moments of rest serve as essential maintenance for your mental and physical health. Maxx Out Your Wellness, Your Way The beauty of maxxing is that it's completely customizable. You don't need to adopt every trend on this list or push yourself to extremes to see benefits. Self-improvement should be about what works for you, not chasing viral trends or comparing yourself to others. Pick the maxxing practices that resonate with your current needs and goals. Maybe you start with sleepmaxxing because you've been exhausted, or perhaps lifemaxxing calls to you because your space feels chaotic. Whatever you choose, approach your wellness journey with balance and self-compassion. The goal is progress in the directions that matter most to you.

At first, I thought the zero-waste lifestyle was impossible. It sounded like a constant battle between perfectionism and the quest for an empty trash can. However, it became easier once I embraced a new mindset. Now, I’m focused on reducing consumption and making intentional choices. My Journey Through Zero-Waste Lifestyle Tips Implementing zero waste takes time. After all, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Here are eight ways I incorporate the lifestyle into my daily life.  1. Buy Items in Bulk First, I considered what I’m bringing into my house. Grocery shopping is a weekly trip for me, so it’s a meaningful way to reduce waste. Buying in bulk lets you use less packaging because you’re buying more per trip. Every month, I shop at a warehouse club to get better prices on goods and reduce my waste.  Bulk-buying is advantageous because it lets you use fewer cardboard boxes and plastic containers. I can buy a large bag of flour or rice and limit the packaging I’ll inevitably send to the landfill.  2. Bring Reusable Grocery Bags Besides the groceries themselves, it’s essential to think about the plastic bags. I try to do most of my shopping at a warehouse store and only go to smaller shops for produce. These businesses use plastic bags, which are a massive source of waste. The world generates 57 million tons of plastic pollution each year, so I do my part to reduce it.  I solve the problem by bringing reusable grocery bags to the store. Packing food and other purchases in my totes prevents waste and saves time while I’m in the checkout line.  3. Compost Scraps  Composting is among the most interesting facets of my zero-waste lifestyle. I’ve heard of the concept for years, but I overlooked it. Now, it’s a part of my daily routine. Eating fruits and veggies means I have plenty of peels and scraps on my kitchen counter. Then, I’ll put them in my compost bin.  Once a week, I take my compost piles to the community garden so they can grow produce. Then, my neighbors can use the soil to grow new food. While it seems small, my contribution is important to the zero-waste philosophy.  4. Choose Secondhand Items There’s not much I love more than the thrift store. I love buying clothes and small gadgets to reduce waste. That said, the benefits double because I’m also helping somebody else’s efforts by purchasing their used belongings. It feels like a treasure hunt because I never know what I’ll find on any given trip.  While thrift shops are a fan favorite for many, there are other places to shop secondhand. For instance, I’ll utilize Facebook Marketplace if I need a table or consignment stores for home goods. Each time I buy secondhand, it means fewer raw materials are necessary to make a new item.  5. Repair Before Replace We’ve all been there — a tear in our shirt or a broken cord on a lamp. It’s tempting just to throw it away and start over. However, embracing a zero-waste lifestyle has taught me the merits of repairing before replacing. I do everything to fix my belongings before searching for a newer, better product.  My bank account thanks me for resoling my shoes instead of buying entirely new ones. It’s also a huge self-confidence booster because I feel more self-reliant. Experts say improving your DIY skills is cheaper than you think and helps in the long run. Even simple tasks like sewing go a long way.  6. DIY the Cleaning Supplies Homemade cleaning supplies are underrated but a big part of zero-waste philosophies. I can reuse the same plastic containers for my cleaners and reduce my consumption. Instead, I buy ingredients like vinegar and baking soda in eco-friendly packaging. Fewer resources and less pollution are a win in my book.  Using your own cleaning supplies is easier than you think. For instance, I learned how to clean my microwave from TikTok trends, such as lemons. At any given time, I have key ingredients to make my cleaners. Here are a few things you can see in my cabinet.  White vinegar Baking soda Castile soap Hydrogen peroxide Essential oils 7. Say Goodbye to Paper  I grew up using paper towels religiously, thanks to my mom. However, I’ve broken that trend to reduce my waste. These household staples are less than ideal for the environment because they fill landfills quickly. Instead, I have a reusable towel system in my house. We use cloth napkins at dinner, old rags for scrubbing and kitchen towels for daily tasks.  Yes, paper towels are the norm. However, we have plenty of ways to kick them to the curb. On my zero-waste lifestyle quest, I’ve discovered the merits of microfiber cloths and Swedish dishcloths. When in doubt, I lean toward the reusable option to optimize my consumption.  8. Do a Trash Audit It might sound silly to think about what you throw in the trash. After all, it’s mostly food scraps and boxes. However, I’ve learned so much about my consumption habits. It provides tangible data as to what’s occupying my bags. I did mine a few weeks into my journey and was surprised to see what I found.  My first trash audit revealed my plastic consumption, particularly Greek yogurt cups. They taste great with their 15g of protein, but there are more sustainable alternatives. I started buying larger tubs to reduce the amount of plastic that ended up in the trash. It was also a good sign to start eating less takeout and to prioritize places that use biodegradable containers.  The Principles of a Zero-Waste Lifestyle Eradicating waste from your life is easier than you think. Use the following five principles to adopt a zero-waste lifestyle in your daily routine.  RefusePrevent waste by refusing things you don’t need.ReduceReduce consumption habits by buying fewer, higher-quality itemsReuseFind ways to continue using items after their first use.RecycleSustainably dispose of belongings once they reach the end of their lives.RotCompost food waste and yard trimmings in a bin or through a municipal service. Embracing the Zero-Waste Philosophy A zero-waste lifestyle is more than a phase you go through in school. Instead, embrace it like a journey to a better version of yourself. Small, intentional choices go a long way toward making an impact. Get some reusable grocery bags for your next shopping trip or create your own cleaning supplies. Regardless, I encourage you to find what works for your lifestyle.

Let’s be real — as much as we want to make new friends, there’s always work, family, errands and other responsibilities to prioritize. With so much happening in our lives, striking up friendships in the coffee shop, a bookstore or the grocery aisle feels impossible. Thanks to technology and the Internet, friendship apps offer a shortcut, helping you cut through the awkward small talk and foster new, intentional connections. Discover apps to make friends, no matter how busy life gets. 1. Bumble BFF: For Finding Your New Bestie If you’ve ever tried looking for a date online, chances are you’re already familiar with Bumble — an app where a guy must respond to your chat within 24 hours or else the match will expire. Bumble BFF has a similar concept, allowing you to make friends online without the intention of pursuing a romantic relationship.  Here, you’ll create a profile with a few photos, bio and swipe right on people you think you’ll vibe with. The main difference is that anyone can start the conversation, regardless of gender. 2. Meetup: For Bonding Over Shared Activities Do you have niche interests that hamper your efforts to find new friends? Meetup is the ideal app for you. It’s one of the good apps to make friends who share your interests. Whether you like a specific anime genre, have an eclectic music taste or play a niche sport, you can find a buddy who’s down to nerd out with you.  Simply add your location and browse events by category. Choose from in-person or online meetups, depending on your preference. 3. Nextdoor: For Hyper-Local Connections Nextdoor is a neighborhood-based social network that connects you with individuals who live in your community. It’s ideal for you if you want to build a local support system, find a walking buddy or organize a block party. Whether you’re new to the community or looking to expand your local network, this app will help you connect to the latest happenings near you.  It’s the ideal app for introverts who want to borrow tools, sell secondhand items or find a babysitter. It’s not as straightforward as “Look, I need new friends,” but a way for you to naturally engage in your community. 4. Gofrendly: For Women Seeking Sisterhood Gofrendly is one of the best apps to make friends with women in your community. Whether you’re looking for someone to go coffee hopping with, join a book club with, or meet a fellow pet parent, this app matches you with potential besties based on shared activities, passions, and even your current life stage. Create an account, put the city where you live and include a short bio stating what you’re looking for. Here, you don’t engage in endless swiping but browse through a list of potential besties. 5. Peanut: For Moms Finding Their Village Peanut is a friendship app ideal for those navigating the joys and challenges of motherhood. Here, you can meet fellow moms, whether you’re pregnant, a first-time mom or juggling toddler tantrums. No matter your stage in life, there’s a community for you, ready to provide you with valuable advice.  Postpartum depression affects around one in seven women and can make one feel lonely — it’s great to have an app where you can instantly connect to a group that gets you. 6. Yubo: For Meeting New Friends All Over the World If you prefer video chats to text messaging, you must try Yubo. What makes it different from other apps is that it allows you to chat via live video, similar to FaceTime, without requiring you to share your contact information. This ensures that the person you’ve met online is not a poser. Additionally, it can help alleviate the jitters of a first-time meetup. 7. LMK: For Extroverts Who Like to Yap If video chatting sounds too much, LMK will become your newest favorite app. It’s a talk-based app that allows you to send voice messages, make calls, and chat with people, whether you’re in a one-on-one conversation or in a group. Yes, you can join a group of people who have the same interests as you. Therefore, if you’re in the mood to yap, you can just chat with a friend or a group!  The best part? Once you’re in a voice chat, a call timer will end unless you or your match extends it. Is It Common to Have Few or No Friends as an Adult? Yes, making friends as an adult can be a challenging experience. Among millennial adults, 27% reported having no close friends. There are several factors why you might not have enough friends: Shyness: For some, starting a conversation with others they don’t know can be challenging. Social anxiety: This is a feeling of fear in social situations, which can be paralyzing and hamper you from making new friends and trying new experiences. Preference for being alone: While there’s nothing wrong with loving alone time, it can prevent you from making new friends. Not knowing where to look: You may want to meet new people, but you don’t know where to look. Not prioritizing friendships: You may have friends and acquaintances, but you don’t keep in touch with them or make an effort to contact them or vice versa. How to Safely Meet Up With Someone You Met Online So, you met a few people online and are ready to meet them in person. While this sounds exciting, it’s essential to prioritize your safety. Here are a few tips to keep in mind before meeting newfound friends. Avoid sharing personal information: You don’t want strangers to know too much about you. Keep your location as general as possible and avoid sharing personal details, such as your birthday. Check your social media platforms: Adjust your social media settings to ensure you’re not revealing too much information to strangers, in case they search for you on different platforms. Choose a public place: Avoid meeting close to home and in an unfamiliar part of the city. Meet somewhere public, such as a coffee shop or mall, during the day or at a busy time in the evening. Explore These Apps to Make Friends You now have the tools — now it’s time to take action. Download these apps to find like-minded individuals. Soon enough, you’ll make new connections that’ll last a lifetime.

Entrepreneurship often glamorizes hustle, connection and constant motion, but those who are lasting creatively, mentally and emotionally are starting to embrace a less flashy advantage — strategic solitude. Seclusion doesn’t mean isolation or avoidance. It’s an intentional space to reflect, create, recharge and lead with clarity. This practical strategy can help business leaders sidestep burnout and deepen their business success. Why Do Entrepreneurs Burn Out? Business founders face intense demands like constant decision-making, financial risk, emotional pressure and never-ending input. Burnout doesn’t just show up as exhaustion — it shows up as apathy, irritability, poor decisions and lost creativity. Solitude helps break that cycle. When you’re alone with intention, you create space to reflect, recalibrate and reconnect with your values. The Wisdom of Leaders Who Embraced Solitude History is full of leaders who didn’t just tolerate aloneness — they sought it out as a sacred tool. Religious leaders like Moses, Jesus and the Prophet Muhammad all chose isolation to gain clarity and direction. Whether climbing a mountain, spending time in the cave of Hira, wandering the desert or praying alone, they found their calm in silence and contemplation away from the world. Roman emperor and Stoic philosopher Marcus Aurelius journaled privately, “retiring into himself,” never writing or performing for an audience but sharpening his thinking and ethics. That aloneness gave him the strength to rule with composure. Statesman and Nobel Prize winner Nelson Mandela spent long hours alone during his years in prison. He credited that reclusion for the opportunity to read and reflect, transforming his anger into clarity and his resistance into resilience. How Do Entrepreneurs Avoid Burnout? Strategic solitude is more than a catchy sales line for the latest corporate retreat company. It’s part of an arsenal of tools to identify, manage and beat entrepreneurial collapse, and it starts with effective strategies like these. 1. Start Your Mornings in Silence Instead of launching into emails or doomscrolling while your mind is still exhausted and anxious from the previous day, give yourself a buffer. Start your day with 15-30 minutes of uninterrupted silence — no screen, no input. Adding a mantra you repeat in your head — like “I can accomplish great things today” — sets the tone for intentional thinking and helps you make decisions from a grounded place, not a reactive one. It’s a reset before the race begins. 2. Take Solo Strategy Walks Walking alone without a podcast or playlist gives your mind space to roam. It mimics how some of the greatest thinkers generated insights through movement and seclusion. During these walks, ideas surface naturally because there’s no agenda, only room to wander mentally. 3. Schedule White Space on Your Calendar White space is unscheduled time in a specific moment that protects your mental bandwidth. It’s not for “catching up” on tasks — it’s for doing nothing on purpose. Blocking out white space each week helps you rest, get creative and even solve problems. This gives your brain the margin it needs to do deep thinking. 4. Designate a Solitude Zone Your environment matters. Choose a physical space — a corner, a reading chair, a park bench — where being alone becomes habitual. The more you return to this space, the more it cues your brain that it’s time to unplug, reflect or create. Over time, this spot becomes a sanctuary for mental clarity. 5. Journal Without an Agenda Stream-of-consciousness journaling helps you process emotions, clarify decisions and spot patterns in your thinking. Don’t try to write something profound — just let your thoughts land. Over time, journaling in isolation could become a diagnostic tool that helps you catch burnout before it takes hold. 6. Build in a Solo CEO Day Set aside one day a month to review strategy without distractions. This isn’t a day to catch up on emails — it’s a zoomed-out session for reflecting on your vision, values and direction. When you regularly revisit the “why” behind your business, you make sharper, braver decisions. 7. Use Alone Time to Rehearse Decisions Before you act on feedback or outside opinions, retreat. Play out the decision in your mind without the noise. Ask what’s motivating this choice — alignment or anxiety? Reclusion makes room for intuition to speak before outside pressure rushes in. 8. Reframe Isolation as a Reward, Not Punishment Being alone isn’t a signal you’ve failed socially — it’s a sign you’re leading thoughtfully. When you treat alone time as a gift, you stop filling every blank space with noise. You begin to crave the calm because you’ve experienced its power. That time alone is often a great way to reset your mindset. 9. Detach From Digital Noise Regularly Even a few minutes without a device could help your mind reset. Turn off notifications, step away from the news cycle and listen to your own thoughts. When you detach, you notice how hyperstimulated you’ve become and how differently your brain works without constant interruption. 10. Reflect on Your “Why” Without Distractions Solitude makes space for deep reflection on your purpose. When you regularly ask yourself, “Why am I building this?” you stay grounded. Revisiting your original mission in a quiet space helps you reconnect with your passion and resist mission drift. 11. Lean Into Deep Work Blocks Block out 90 minutes for distraction-free creation — no meetings, messages or multitasking. These solitude-powered sessions are when you write, design, problem-solve or plan without interruption. Innovation and flow states live in this “deep work” mode. 12. Explore Fears That Surface in Silence Reclusion often reveals discomfort you’ve been ignoring, but entrepreneurs are boundary breakers who can learn to face things you fear. Instead of running from it, sit with it. Naming a fear — whether it’s impostor syndrome or stress of failure — reduces its power. This internal honesty becomes fuel for self-trust, resilience and innovation. Additionally, you can assess those fears to decide if your worries are founded or if you’re just anxious about trying a new path. 13. Turn to Aloneness to Reset Emotional Regulation When you’re overwhelmed, solitary time is an emotional palate cleanser. Techniques like breathwork, body scans or sitting quietly help reset your nervous system so you can re-engage calmly. These short pauses can shift your mindset from fight or flight to clarity and reactive to responsive. 14. Create Boundaries Around Social Energy Not every meeting needs to happen, and not every message requires an instant reply. Solitude teaches you to protect your energy instead of constantly performing. Business leaders who build space for being alone can show up with more presence and less resentment. 15. Celebrate Wins and Failures Alone Taking time to reflect privately helps you internalize growth. When you celebrate without needing public applause, you build self-respect and inner validation. You also get better at processing mistakes with curiosity, not shame, turning solitude into your personal debriefing space. Solitude and the Founder’s Mental Health Toolkit Isolation is a powerful burnout-prevention tool but is not a stand-alone cure. If you’re already deep in burnout, chronic stress or emotional fatigue, separation should complement other forms of support. That includes therapy, medication, rest and boundaries, but if reclusion turns into avoidance or you feel worse after alone time, that’s a red flag. Solitude should feel regenerative, not like punishment. If the quiet feels heavy, you may need more connection before using alone time to reinforce emotional healing. Think of isolation as a foundational practice that makes all your other mental health tools work better: It gives therapy room to integrate. It helps journaling become more insightful. It allows mindfulness to deepen. It creates space to hear your needs before they turn into crises. Start Small and Stay Consistent You don’t need to move to a monastery to regain your rhythm — you just need a few minutes a day to start. Wake up 10 minutes earlier, pause after lunch, take a mini phone sabbatical and schedule a monthly CEO day. Take a no-input walk once a week and remember that strategic solitude is a re-entry into yourself. The more you return to that place of quiet clarity, the more resilient, creative and focused you’ll become, not just as a founder but as a whole person.

Smell might be the most neglected sense, yet it can powerfully affect your mood. When comparing incense vs. essential oils, you'll find both offer benefits. However, choosing the right one requires insight beyond your sniffer.  These substances can make your surroundings smell heavenly but with a catch. Your tolerance for the potential side effects determines your best choice. When it comes down to incense versus essential oils, which one is right for you?  Incense vs. Essential Oils: Incense Benefits  Who wins the incense vs. essential oils battle? Incense has been used for thousands of years in religious and spiritual rituals. In modern times, its powerful olfactory punch is used to mask other aromas and add a pleasant scent to your indoor air. It offers the following benefits.  1. Increase Concentration and Focus  Certain aromas activate scent receptors in your brain, encouraging alertness and facilitating cognitive processes. The signals produced by these scent receptors travel to your brain, which interprets the message by making minor adjustments in breathing patterns, perhaps even your neurotransmitter and hormone levels through your gut microbiota. Could this phenomenon partially explain the mystic ecstasy experienced by some meditators?  2. Get in Touch With Your Spiritual Side Incense has a long history of use in religious rites. Visit a Catholic church to get your Easter meal blessed, and you’ll witness — and smell — the priest walk by with a censer. Those who follow pagan faiths often incorporate this aroma-rich substance into their rituals. For example, sage is often used to dispel evil spirits. Which scents have meaning depends upon your background. For example, Frankincense and myrrh are well-known in the Christian tradition and represent two of the three gifts brought by the magi. In the Buddhist tradition, they represent the seeker’s intent for spiritual enlightenment. Hindus believe that these fragrances invite the presence of deities and signify respect and purity.   Even folks who are spiritual but not necessarily religious harness the power of incense in rituals. You don’t have to look far to find videos on how to attract luck and prosperity into your life, such as this one:  https://youtu.be/KGUhwoTwuYs?si=2BqhFCN0LvBmOE_F 3. Improve Your Sex Drive Several incense aromas, like bergamot, rose and vanilla, activate receptors in your brain that make you feel more amorous. Ylang-ylang is particularly useful for increasing attraction and libido among lovers.  Incense Drawbacks  Burning incense releases particulate matter into your indoor air. Therefore, you could suffer the following adverse health effects, particularly if you are sensitive.  1. Respiratory Issues If you have asthma, you may wish to avoid incense. A new case presented this year at the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology warns that this substance can pose health risks to vulnerable adults and children, including those with asthma or other upper respiratory sensitivities. Incense fumes contain several volatile substances, including formaldehyde, sulfur, carbon and nitrogen oxides. When inhaled, these chemicals can cause symptoms including:  Headaches Respiratory dysfunction Skin sensitivity Allergic reactions  2. Heart Disease If you keep an eye on your heart health, you may wish to avoid incense, too. One study performed at the National Taiwan University College of Medicine found that long exposure to incense smoke increases the risk of cardiovascular disease by 10% and stroke by 19%. Heart disease is already the number one killer of men and women worldwide, so protect your ticker if you are at risk.  3. Cancer  Finally, exposure to the chemicals and particulates released by incense can increase your risk of certain cancers, especially of the respiratory tract. While there was no overall effect on lung cancer rates, there was a significant uptick in upper respiratory tract carcinomas.  Therefore, essential oils may be better than incense if you have heart or lung conditions. Using incense in a brick form on a special burner instead of lighting sticks reduces particulate matter but doesn’t eliminate risks.  Incense Versus Essential Oils: Essential Oil Benefits  Fortunately, you can also use essential oils to improve your indoor air and add humidity to your room. You can pick up inexpensive diffusers at nearly any department store for $20 or less. They help keep your skin moist while offering the following additional benefits.  1. Improve Your Mood  Essential oils also activate scent receptors in your brain. Fragrances like citrus help energize you and improve your focus, while others like lavender ease stress and relax you. 2. Boost Immune Function  Research on forest bathers indicates that inhaling chemicals called phytoncides helps kick the human immune system into high gear. It’s reasonable to assume some fragrances might also activate pathways that increase your resistance to germs. One 2024 study on eucalyptus essential oil found that it can alleviate the inflammation characteristic of arthritis, respiratory ailments and skin disorders.  Typically, you inhale essential oils, but you can also apply them to the skin when included in a safe carrier oil. For example, many people with arthritis apply creams made with arnica essential oil directly to painful joints.  3. Ease Anxiety and Depression Mindfulness entails getting into the present and breaking the negative thought cycle that has you ruminating on past mistakes or future fears. One way you can increase your ability to remain in the moment is by concentrating on your five senses — including scent. Some people successfully use lavender essential oil to quell panic attacks. Inhaling the aroma is enough to break the cascade of negative thoughts.  Best of all, you can use lavender essential oil without anyone knowing what you are doing. You can find small roll-on applicators that you can dab on your wrist or even right under your nose for an intoxicating hit of the relaxing scent. The benefits are so profound that scientists are now investigating a prescription made from the oil to treat depressive disorders. Anxiety can morph into depression, especially when you see no way out of your circumstances.  Essential Oil Drawbacks Like incense, essential oils do have a few drawbacks. Please consider the following before use.  1. Irritated Eyes or Skin Allergies Skin or eye irritation can happen from direct exposure to essential oils. However, some sensitive individuals also have problems with the diluted mist exuded by diffusers.  2. May Impact Hormones Researchers found a link between excessive use of lavender and unusual breast development in girls and boys. According to Kenneth S. Korach, Ph.D., the use of lavender oil can promote breast development in boys and girls younger than eight years of age. He stresses that this development warrants the need for further research on the potential health risks of essential oils, especially lavender, which is frequently used to combat migraine pain.  3. Potentially Unsafe Around Children and Pets  Please never leave your essential oils unattended around small children — they should never be taken internally. Contact your poison control center if you suspect ingestion.  Many essential oils are also highly toxic to pets. While some extracts aren’t as harmful as others, it’s best to keep them all away from your furry friends. Slight variations in formulations and carrier oils can lead your puppy or kitty to ingest something they otherwise wouldn’t, and exposure to the fumes can also cause upper respiratory distress.  Pets can also suffer exposure when essential oils get on their fur, which they then lick. These substances can burn if they get to the skin or make your baby sick. If you suspect accidental ingestion, please take them to the vet immediately.  How to Use Incense and Essential Oils It’s a snap to learn how to use incense or essential oils. Most incense consists of sticks, which you simply light, letting it burn to coals. The smoke it emits contains the fragrance. However, you can also find alternative burners that may reduce the particulate content. Many of these use candles, which can also release volatile organic compounds into the air, so the degree of health benefit from using such a device remains unclear.  You can use essential oil scores of ways. The most popular is to diffuse them, adding a few drops to water and letting heat create steam that imbues your air with fragrance. You can find bubbling versions and plug-ins. Additionally, you can add a few drops of essential oil to a spray bottle to mist fragrance where you like it or add it to a carrier lotion or oil to apply to your skin. Ensure that the type you choose is safe for topical applications, and never take essential oils internally.  Incense Vs. Essential Oils: Which One Do You Prefer? The winner of the incense vs. essential oil battle boils down to which one is best for your needs. You might use both for different purposes or stick to one for bolstering your health and making your home smell divine.  Originally published February 2, 2022. Updated December 23, 2024

Do Tattoos Promote Wellness You might be wondering, “How does a tattoo fit into health and wellness?” Turns out, it’s all about intention. Zodiac tattoos often serve as visual affirmations of traits you’re embracing or working on. For example, a Capricorn may opt for a mountain design, qualities representing resilience and ambition. Maybe you want it to remind you to remain grounded even as you reach for those lofty goals. Cancer might choose lunar-inspired ink to honor their emotional depth and nurturing side. Probably as a way of reinforcing self-love and empathy in their daily lives. Here’s one for mindfulness! It’s believed that tattoos can boost self-esteem and reinforce identity. A recent study found that 62% of inked individuals get tattooed as a form of self-expression. Ongoing research suggests that tattoos may bolster immune responses due to repeated exposure, making them a fascinating blend of art and health. When aligned with something as personal as your zodiac, the impact becomes both profound and empowering. Dive Into the Stars Whether you choose minimalist constellation designs or elaborate zodiac-inspired tattoo work, your celestial ink should reflect your unique connection to the stars. Remember to consult with a professional artist who can bring your vision to life while maintaining the symbolic integrity of your chosen design. Your perfect astrological tattoo awaits — it's written in the stars.

If climate change news makes you tremble, taking action is calmative. You don’t need to own property you can convert to solar — small acts can make a difference. How can you improve your ecological savvy and reduce your carbon footprint this year? Here are ten sustainable lifestyle changes to make in 2024 for a healthier planet.  1. Ditch the Straw It’s an automatic reflex these days. You go through the drive-thru and expect a straw in your bag and think nothing of stripping the wrapper off one when stopping for a convenience-store pop.  People in the United States alone use up to 500 million straws every single day. Many of these don’t belong in standard recycling, nor can biological means like bacteria break them down — they stay in the environment nearly forever.  The solution? Invest in a reusable model. Many of these clip to your keychain, meaning you always have one handy when the siren song of french fries proves too much to resist on the way home from work. Some even contain a handy cleaning brush right inside the collapsable model that keeps things hygienic.  2. Bring a Bag Reusable bags stand head and shoulders above single-use versions. They don’t break, spilling your expensive eggs all over the sidewalk. They’re handy for scores of uses, from schlepping your gym clothes in from your car for a fresh shower and change, hauling laundry to the mat or, of course, safely transporting your groceries home.  Is it hard to create the habit? Not necessarily. Some people find the torture of forcing themselves to walk back to their car through the snow to retrieve forgotten bags the right stimulus to stir their memory next time. Others take a more gentle approach, putting their wallet or purse with their bags as they enter the car, linking the habits to make remembering reusables easier to remember.  However, if you are a member of the “Darn it, I left my bag in my car and don’t want to walk back,” set, take heart. You can find reusable bags that fold up and clip to your keychain, meaning that you have no more excuses for requesting plastic at the register.  3. Use Pedal Power If your nearest store is less than half a mile away, why drive when you can walk? If you mentioned the time factor, you aren’t alone. Today’s hectic schedules sometimes leave little room for making sustainable, if slower, choices.  However, you can slash your travel time with a bike while reducing your carbon footprint and getting exercise. You can even find electric models that produce a fraction of a car’s emissions and help power you up steep hills. Sometimes, commuting this way can be faster than by car when traffic piles up and you zip by in the right lane with a wave and a smile.  4. Investigate Walk Scores Are you looking for a new pad? Pay attention to your location’s walk score.  Perhaps surprisingly, urban locations often have better scores than more rural ones. Don’t automatically rule out city life — you could find, like many New Yorkers, that you don’t need a vehicle or the pesky emissions associated with it at all.  5. Add a Plant  Way back in the 1980s, NASA did a study to see how they could produce a breathable atmosphere on Mars. They discovered that the humble house plant could clean toxins like toluene from the air, albeit not as effectively as air purifiers. However, each new plant produces oxygen. A new ficus is an approved impulse buy when you want to make sustainable lifestyle changes. 6. Eat Locally Are you friends with the vendors at your farmer’s market? While grocery goods may travel thousands of miles — and produce tons of emissions during transport — these products come from close to home. You’ll reduce your emissions and feel better about serving your family fruits and veggies that you know are fresh and organic.  Farm-to-table restaurants have increased in popularity, and visiting one of these with your BFFs can be among the most sustainable lifestyle changes you can make in 2025. Many such establishments grow their fruits and vegetables onsite, and those that serve meat may raise livestock as well. These minimize transport, and increase accountability and transparency — you can’t fib about your practices when customers can observe them in action at your location.  7. Join a Crew Volunteering isn’t only a way to pad your resume if you have been out of work for a while. You can find neighborhood and highway cleanup crews seeking help nearly anywhere in America. You’ll meet new friends, stimulate feel-good neurotransmitter production and get a little exercise while making a sustainable lifestyle change.  8. Adjust Your Fans and Curtains If you run your HVAC system all the time, you go through tons of fuel. Why not save money on your utility bills while sustainably controlling your climate? Turn them counterclockwise in the summer to circulate air and reverse the direction in winter to pull warmer air up from baseboard registers.  Furthermore, make use of passive solar heating. Blackout curtains can preserve interior heat, especially on thin rental windows, during nighttime hours. However, tie them back during the day when the sun strikes them to take advantage of the free solar heat.  9. Add a Recycle Bag to Your Ride If you upped your road-trip quotient over the past months, you aren’t alone. Travel restrictions had more people shunning airports and turning to their rides for recreation. However, all that fun produces tons of waste, much of which you can recycle.  However, you probably noticed that not too many fast food joints, convenience stores or gas stations provide recycling bins. What can you do with all those empty pop cans? When selecting a garbage disposal system for your car, pick one with a separate section for reusable materials that you can sort in the correct bins when you arrive home.  10. Get Smart Adding a smart home device or two costs a fraction of the amount of a solar conversion. However, it can save you big time on your heating and cooling while slashing your carbon footprint.  Start with a smart thermostat. According to the Department of Energy, you can save up to 10% on your utility bill by adjusting that dial by seven to ten degrees during the eight hours you leave the house to work. Doing so is a snap with a smart thermostat that links to your phone. Even if you forget to program the hours, you can turn on eco mode from anywhere, instantly saving electricity and reducing your reliance on fossil fuels.  Make These 9 Sustainable Lifestyle Changes Protecting planet earth is everyone’s responsibility. Are you a massive impulse spender or perhaps you simply want to save more? With plenty of budgeting hacks online, finding which ones to follow can be confusing. However, this certain “no-spend challenge” is currently making rounds online, with many people claiming to have experienced great things about it. Discover how this simple challenge can make significant changes to your finances, buying habits and your relationship with money. What Is a No-Spend Challenge? This challenge has been around for years but resurfaced this year due to TikTok trends. With around 43.5% of Gen Z searching for financial advice online, many people are turning to influencers for sound financial advice, such as this challenge. It has become viral on the platform since many people attest to its benefits. The no-spend challenge requires you to refrain from spending money on nonessential items and track your progress on a calendar. Common forbidden “splurges” include: Eating out Buying new clothes Getting a new haircut Purchasing coffee in cafes and restaurants Buying alcohol The main goal is to avoid overspending and reduce spending for a certain period, depending on your preference.  No-Spend Challenge Benefits The no-spend challenge somehow forces you to live below your means, which has plenty of benefits: 1. More Prepared for Emergencies Instead of giving into impulse purchase decisions, you can set aside money for your emergency fund. This money will provide you with peace of mind when accidents or unexpected circumstances arise, such as a major dental bill or a broken TV. 2. Financial Freedom The no-spend challenge gives you control over your finances, freeing yourself from the money stress. When you quit your unhealthy spending habits, you don’t have to worry about your credit card debt and enjoy watching your savings grow. 3. Healthier Lifestyle Spending solely on essentials makes you more mindful of your habits and lifestyle. Tracking where every penny goes may trigger healthy habits, such as limiting take-outs and cooking meals at home — a skill beneficial for your body and wallet.  4. Greater Appreciation for What You Have When you get serious about saving money, you also better appreciate what you have. It may even lead you to embrace a minimalist way of living and make you reflect deeper before making a purchase, leading to better life decisions. When you start noticing what you have, the urge to buy new, nonessential things becomes less. 5. Better Discipline Taking part in the no-money challenge is no easy feat. It requires discipline and dedication so you can succeed. This might be the right approach for you if you want to correct your unhealthy spending habits. With plenty of budgeting apps and hacks available online requiring you to log your expenses daily, you can find your footing easily. Rules of No-Spend Challenge Ready to take control of your finances? Here are the rules for the no-spend challenge:  1. Set Your Timeline Decide how long you’re going to commit to the challenge. If you’re new to saving, starting small — at least 30 days is highly recommended. Feel free to extend the duration if it goes well and you love the results.  2. Know What to and Not to Buy https://ph.pinterest.com/pin/284923113919356990/ The true challenge lies in knowing what you need and want. Usual needs include groceries, gas, transportation fees, household items, bills and rent, but depending on your living situation, this list may be more comprehensive.  However, it’s important not to get discouraged during the process. Maybe you and your partner always meet up for a movie once a month, and it’s an important time to connect and relax. Perhaps your mom is spending her birthday, and you must buy a gift. Make room for simple pleasures like that so you’re less likely to get demotivated. 3. Avoid Window Shopping Avoid going to the mall if you don’t have errands or a set purpose. That way, you can prevent the temptation of purchasing that limited-edition bag. The same goes for online window shopping. Use site and app blockers to restrict you from visiting certain sites if you must. 4. Unfollow Influencers Who Fuel Your Shopping Just as in real life, it’s essential to surround yourself with people who make you feel good. Unfollow influencers who constantly suggest items under the guise of good intentions. More often than not, these are paid promotions designed to manipulate you into spending money. Plus, excessive use of social media can cause anxiety and fear of missing out (FOMO), both of which are unhealthy for your mental wellness. 5. Replace Shopping With a Hobby There are so many things to do besides shopping. Cultivate a new skill or rekindle a lost passion. Explore activities that don’t require swiping your credit card. You can also find free events in your area, online courses, or community gardens where you can volunteer. Here are some ideas to get you started: https://ph.pinterest.com/pin/6473993210109143/ 6. Learn to Say No For some reason, people don’t want others to know that they can’t afford something. Sometimes, an individual would go to lengths because they don’t want someone to think they couldn’t afford a certain thing. If this sounds like you, it’s time to practice the art of saying no. Talk about your goals when a friend invites you to an out-of-town trip. The savings will be worth the awkward conversations. 7. Reflect This challenge can shed light on your habits. You might be surprised how often impulse buying kicks in, particularly when you’re tired or doom-scrolling online, hoping that checking out items can soothe your negative emotions in the long run. Once you reflect, you may realize that your behavior may contribute to the clutter in your space and mind. A break from this habit can give you a much-needed reset and help you recalibrate your priorities.  Try the No-Spend Challenge Today Do this challenge if you want to drastically change your spending habits. It will make you more mindful of how you treat your money and better equip you to make better financial decisions. While it may seem daunting — and even a little impossible — not to splurge for a while, it’s a productive way to get your finances back on track.

The end of the year is dubbed cuffing season, with many single people seeking out short-term romances to spend the winter season with. Too many people think of a partner as a necessity during the holidays. However, you can have a merry single Christmas on your own, and it can be even more fulfilling than a short-lived relationship. Why Being Single on Christmas Is Great People often feel pressured to jump into a fling to avoid having a single Christmas, and some even cave into it. However, you must look past the single-shaming, especially if you prefer being alone instead of committing to someone. Here’s why going solo on the holidays is appealing: Bid relationship woes goodbye: Did you know some couples want to end their relationship during the holidays? About 40% view the breakup as a way to get out of buying a present. Others are simply nervous about meeting the family and growing too close. By being single, you don’t have to worry about keeping up appearances. More authority over your plans: Couples must organize being at multiple gatherings to catch up with their circle of family and friends. Being single means you can dictate what you will be up to during this holiday season.  Enjoy the holidays at your own pace: Celebrating solo also means you can pause or change schedules. If you suddenly feel like leaving a Christmas party due to a low social battery, you can do so instead of making a potential partner adjust. Reassess and reflect on yourself: Maybe you got out of a recent relationship. Perhaps you’ve been single your whole life. Either way, having a solo Christmas is an experience that teaches you a lot about yourself.  How to Celebrate Christmas When You Are Single Being alone during the holiday season doesn’t have to be lonely at all. Here are some ways to embrace being single during the Christmas season.  1. Join a Volunteer Organization Look up Christmas volunteering opportunities near you to have a meaningful holiday. Many organizations could use a hand with their initiatives. You can check up on the local shelters or churches for feeding programs that give back to the community. Spread holiday cheer to patients at the town hospitals or older people in nursing homes.  2. Glam and Dress Up Put on your best dress and glam yourself up as a pick-me-up during the winter season. About 49% of women put on makeup to boost their confidence, and the best thing is that you don’t even have to go out right after. You can put on your best holiday red lipstick and just take pictures in the comfort of your home.  3. Organize a Travel Trip Traveling solo is such a novel experience. You can catch a flight during these winter months or just book one in advance to save up. Browse attractions and accommodations to build your dream trip. You could also go backpacking and see where you land. Just remember to stay safe. 4. Book a Hotel Room for Yourself If you’re more of an indoor person, get a hotel room. Just think of yourself as Kevin McCallister from “Home Alone 2” as you treat yourself to some cheese pizza. You could also go on a cabin staycation if you prefer being nearer to the great outdoors. Dress warm to enjoy the experience! 5. Create a Christmas Tradition Try to create a little tradition that you can do for yourself. For example, have a specific date for wrapping presents ahead of any planned gatherings. You can also try these solo holiday activities: Cook up a Christmas dinner: Create a Christmas feast for yourself. Beef Wellington is delectable, or you can create a lovely casserole. If you have the extra time, bake some chocolate chip cookies. Decorate the Christmas tree: Play your favorite holiday tunes and decorate a tree, even if it’s a mini one. Add on your favorite Christmas lights and baubles before proudly putting them on display.  Put on a Christmas movie: Christmas films are in an intriguing league of their own. Soak up all the drama in the holiday rom-coms or look for tearjerkers that remind you of your family and friends. Make yourself a Christmas drink: Make yourself some mulled wine by mixing wine with orange slices and your favorite spices. If you prefer non-alcoholic, a nice hot chocolate is excellent for the cold.  6. Go on a Spa Trip Take a solo trip to the spa during the Christmas season. Some facilities have a pool where you can swim or a sauna to sweat. You can get a massage to remove all the knots and tension from earlier in the year. A facial and bath is also great to relax and rejuvenate. Get your nails done and maybe enjoy a cup of tea in between 7. Meet with Family and Friends Being single means more time to meet up with your family and friends. Have a dinner party or two to exchange gifts and spend time. You can also grab a drink at your favorite cafe on the days when you and your loved ones are free. 8. Mingle with Fellow Singles If you feel comfortable meeting new people, consider joining activities like hiking or book clubs. Engaging in spaces surrounding your interest means meeting like-minded people and creating new friendships with people.  9. Start Journaling Having a single Christmas opens up plenty of opportunities for self-reflection. Bring out a journal and start writing down your thoughts about the past year. Search up question prompts online to rack up your brain. You could also write down hopes and plans for the future.  10. Find a Book to Read Go through your list of unread books this holiday season. The average reader can read 300 pages in 8.3 hours, but you can take your time throughout this month. That said, going on a reading marathon is also its own fun challenge. Embrace Being Single on Christmas Celebrating a single Christmas can be so much more gratifying than you think. Avoid rushing into a relationship and find joy in your own company.
