TL;DR Longer days and warmer weather open up plenty of opportunities for memorable dates. To help you make the most of the season together, these fun summer date ideas range from beach strolls and picnics to cozy movie nights and cooking classes.

Summer is finally here after a harsh winter, and if you’re anything like me and my sweetie, you’re jonesing to get out and have some fun in the sun with your beau. The warm season offers a wealth of ideas for making date night special without necessarily blowing through a bankroll. Plus, many romantic and fun summer date ideas cost no money at all!

If you’re making plans for this season, you’re in luck. Here are 15 fun summer date ideas for making your one-on-one time with your sweetie fun and (hopefully) frisky for both of you. Now, while the days are longer and the temperatures warmer, get out there and celebrate your love!

1. Take a Moonlit Beach Stroll

Does anything scream “romance” more than a moonlit stroll along the beach? Once the daytime crowds disappear, you can enjoy uninterrupted conversation with nothing but the sound of the waves in the background. There may be a reason the coast feels so calming, too. The ocean’s vast horizon and endless views can create a sense of awe, and researchers believe that this can put everyday worries into perspective. Bring a bottle of wine or some piña coladas and let the ocean work its magic!

2. Hit Up an Outdoor Concert

Hitting up an outdoor concert during the summer is one of my favorite fun summer date ideas because it always gets you and your honey up and dancing. Outdoor concerts offer the benefit of having all the space you want to spread out and enjoy the good vibes. You can soak up some sun and help your body produce more vitamin D while jamming out to your favorite tunes.

3. Have a Picnic in the Park

Picnics are so old-school and quaint — that’s what makes them so awesome! Whether or not you decide to invest in a cute, red-and-white-checked basket or simply load up an old cooler, you’ll love dining al fresco with your amor. Feeling super-ambitious? Whip up a batch of homemade fried chicken the night before to carry along cold.

4. Go Hot Air Ballooning

If you’ve got a tougher stomach than mine (the vertigo is strong in this one), taking a hot air balloon ride with your lover allows you to see your city or town from a whole new perspective. Plus, there’s something exhilarating about holding hands dozens or hundreds of feet in the air. Many popular tourist destinations also offer such rides, so if you’re taking a road trip, consider booking a flight somewhere along your travels.

5. Stroll Through a Farmers Market

Farmers markets aren’t only for fresh produce anymore, although you can certainly snag some organic bargains on your trip. Many farmers markets are full-blown flea markets these days, where vendors offer all types of wares. Pick out humanely raised or vegetarian noms and cook up dinner together when you get home.

6. Take a Cooking Class

Learning how to make pasta by hand, decorate cakes, or perfect homemade ice cream is a fun way to bond with your partner. You’ll share plenty of laughs and get to enjoy the results together afterward. Also, mastering a new recipe and learning a new skill can build confidence and make it easier to tackle future challenges. Many local restaurants and culinary schools offer classes, but if you’d rather stay in, there are plenty of online options as well.

7. Go to a Fair

C’mon, you know you’ve always wanted a cotton-candy kiss atop the Ferris wheel. Summertime is fair season in the majority of the U.S. Most fairs allow you to buy tickets per ride, so if money is tight, you can still enjoy a spin on the Tilt-A-Whirl and maybe win your favorite teddy bear as a stuffed memento if you have a wicked pitching arm.

8. Climb Every Mountain

Summer is the perfect time to explore the great outdoors. Head to a nearby trail, nature preserve or forest and spend the day hiking together. Want to make it extra special? Turn it into a camping weekend complete with campfires, stargazing and plenty of time away from everyday distractions.

9. Go Indoor Skating

When temps approach the triple digits, there’s nowhere cooler to hang out than an indoor ice skating rink. Even if you have all the coordination of a newborn doe, you can seek relief from the heat. Additionally, you and your boo can recreate your favorite scene from “Happy Gilmore” if you can bribe the DJ to play “Endless Love.”

10. Enjoy the Magic of Disney

Have a wad of money in savings you’re dying to blow? If you have the funds, a trip to Disney World is romantic for kids at heart of all ages. Those who live in cooler climes often underestimate how strong the Florida sun can be. The high humidity brings the skeeters and noseeums out of hiding, too.

11. Watch a Movie Outdoors

Many parks and community centers host outdoor movie nights during the summer, and if you’re lucky, your town may still have drive-in theaters. Bonus points if a thriller or horror movie is playing. Scary movies can get your adrenaline pumping, which leaves you feeling excited and energized. Since you’re not actually running from danger, you’ll probably end up doing the next best thing — snuggling a little closer to your boo.

12. Rent Some Jet Skis

Prefer your water wet, not frozen? Most outdoor recreation areas rent out canoes, kayaks and even jet skis. Take advantage of the instructional demonstrations, then get out on the lake or ocean and find your own private romantic cove.

13. Go for a Tandem Bike Ride

If the temps aren’t too sweltering, why not take a tandem bike ride? Even if you don’t have such a bike, many places rent them out. Feeling lazy? Rent a tandem bike so you can switch to motor power when your legs get tired (or you hit a hill).

14. Sleep Under the Stars

Finally, what could be more romantic than lying on a blanket under the stars, gazing at constellations with your sweetie? Warm summer nights are perfect for stargazing, even if you go no further than your own backyard.

15. Enjoy a Spa Day

Need an excuse to slow down together? Book a spa day. Many spas offer couples massages, so you can relax side by side while someone else does all the work. Massage can help ease muscle tension, lower stress levels, improve your mood and leave you both feeling refreshed. Afterward, you’ll probably find yourselves walking out a little lighter and a lot more connected than when you arrived.
