A beautiful, glossy lip can improve your day. Many products have gone viral, but very few have achieved the hype of the Rhode lip gloss. While I love all of my tubes, some I favor more than others. There’s also much more to know before you purchase.
Personally, I think the Rhode lip gloss is worth it. Known better as the peptide lip treatment or tint under Rhode Skin by Haily Beiber, this product offers plenty of shine while moisturizing the lips. Of all the items on the line, I would say it’s the most must-have product in her line.
While I love wearing the glosses on their own, they mainly go well with cream lipsticks the most. That said, using only a dab is important to avoid making them feel too heavy. Especially when using the pigmented variations, a little goes a long way.
That said, I got one tube that was a little bit grittier, especially when I was down to half the contents in it. Some people shared that they had the same experience and put the component into a mug of warm water to melt the formula. Avoid boiling hot water, as it will probably melt the packaging!
You can’t talk about the Rhode peptide lip treatment without talking about the peptides. The beauty brand’s site says this is meant to reduce the look of fine lines. It checks out since it consists of elastin fibers, which can firm and plump up surfaces.
The bottle also contains shea butter, which gives the gloss its hydrating and moisturizing factor. Aside from the wax in the formula, shea butter can clump up if you’re in a colder climate, so that could contribute to the grainy texture.
I also appreciate the babassu, which I’ve never heard before. It’s supposedly a source of lauric acid that helps the skin’s microbiome. It also replenishes the moisture barrier, which is a must to avoid chapped lips.
There are quite a number of options when you’re interested in getting the Rhode lip gloss. You can pick a scented version or the tinted ones like Ribbon, Toast, Espresso, and Raspberry Jelly. All shades are available on the Rhode Skin website right now.
Here’s how I would rank them:
Toast has to be the most flattering shade for all skin tones. This peptide lip treatment shade is a rosy taupe that adds the most beautiful tinge of depth to your lips. I love using it for no-makeup makeup looks, but even using it as a lip topper on other shades just elevates it.
As a sucker for vampy lips, Espresso comes as a close second. It is a rich brown that is just beautiful. I love wearing this with a lip liner to tie in a more gothic makeup look. My lip lines feel more blurred with this because of the pigment.
The original Rhode lip glosses do not have a tint to them. I like using this, especially the unscented variant, when I have a bare face or I’m doing my skin care. I have a soft spot for the Salted Caramel and Rhode Vanilla. Watermelon Slices and Passionfruit were also really good-smelling. I’ve never tried the Strawberry Glaze, but people did say that they enjoyed that.
Ribbon is a sheer baby pink that offers the same glossiness that all the other Rhode peptide lip tints offer. It’s nice wearing other shades of baby pink in my makeup. However, it can feel a little too light for my skin at times.
Raspberry jelly is a nice shade of crushed berry. It’s very pigmented and fuschia, which can be beautiful when you like a bold pink lip. Out of personal preference, I just prefer the other shades of Rhode’s peptide lip tint over it.
If you prefer the pigmented peptide lip tints over the regular treatment, try to check the shades and see what you would prefer more first. If you already have some in your collection, you could pick one or two that you like.
It’s common for most brands to have limited shades that pander more to those with lighter skin tones, leaving people of color with fewer options. While some market Rhode Skin’s line to be universally flattering, I would say Ribbon could be a pass.
Each lip tint costs about $18, but you can get a set of all four original ones with different scents or the colored versions for about $65. Since you get about 10 ml, that’s about $1.8 per ml. It’s a pretty high cost, but it’s relatively worth it if you regularly use lip products.
For reference, makeup sets like the Peripera Ink Glasting Lip Gloss Mini Holiday Gift Sets cost just as much, if not less with discounts. However, you only get 7.5 ml of product, with one of three shades containing 2.5 ml.
It’s honestly up to personal preference. If you prefer something with a little more shine and prefer the doe-foot applicator when putting on lippies, there could be better lip glosses over this. I think it’s pretty good when I need a nourishing product with some product. Granted, there are days when I just want a lighter formula, which makes me turn to K-beauty.
Considering the lip treatment comes from a skin care line, it’s reasonable to use it in your routine and go to bed with it. However, some of the pigment can rub into your sheets if it is the lip tint. Add liquid dish soap to the stained areas and let it sit for about 30 minutes or so. Afterward, you can submerge it in water and brush it off.
Definitely. Hailey Beiber even uses it as a lip topper in her makeup video in Vogue. I would say the peptide lip tints are more suitable with the rest of your cosmetics thanks to the color, but the original ones are good too, if you want a color underneath.
